Kilkenny's Irish Pub

Being that I am from Kansas City, I definitely did not plan on my first brunch review on this blog being about an out-of-town spot, but that's exactly how the cookie crumbles this time. Over the weekend, I made the trek down to Tulsa, OK to visit one of my oldest friends who lives and teaches there. Of course, she humored me and agreed to do brunch on Saturday.

I spent a good amount of time on Friday night reading online and in the end we decided on Kilkenny's Irish Pub. My friend had been before and thought it had a unique charm as well as good food, so I was sold! Kilkenny's is located in the heart of their Cherry Street district - a trendy area with a number of cute restaurants and shops, plus is the home of their farmer's market.

We were seated in the bar section of the restaurant, and I couldn't help but snap some pictures of the decor. It had a very cool, traditional Irish feel. I am a big fan of ornate decor, so I loved the look.

As far as drinks go, I went with a more classic Mimosa (technically, the larger Manmosa) and Shelby ordered the Guinness Bloody Mary because Irish bar. Extra points to our server for acknowledging the sexism that is calling the larger Mimosa a MANmosa. Don't worry though - I finished it and I'm just a little ol' brunch broad. :)

As far as food went, she and I went with the Kilkenny Waffle and the Vinesgrove Benny respectively.

  • Kilkenny Waffle - Smoked ham, Chorizo sausage, and jalepeno cooked in a Belgian waffle
  • Vinesgrove Benny - Julienne cut sautéed vegetables topped with poached eggs on grilled Irish muffin halves topped with Hollandaise sauce

I am a lover of all things eggs benedict, so trying a version that was made with vegetables was a treat for me. As far as S's food goes, she had no complaints - after all, how can you go wrong with a meat-stuffed waffle?!

Something I loved is that for being in the middle of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kilkenny's seemed to be a pretty true representation of the Irish culture - from the menu items, to the decor, to the booze. Overall, food was yummy, prices were reasonable, and I got to drink at 10:30 in the morning. I would definitely recommend Kilkenny's to my friends.
